Top tips
- Mushrooms: For this dish, I used white mushrooms-the most common and affordable variety. You can use other types if you want to try different flavors, but the flavor of the mushrooms shouldn't be so strong that it overpowers the garlic.
- Oil: Good extra-virgin olive oil is very important for this dish, and even though it may seem like a lot, it's fantastic with toasted bread.
- Parsley: If you'd like, garnish with a little chopped parsley to add color and extra flavor.
- Chili: If you don't have piri piri (peri peri, or African birdseye pepper), you can use dried chili flakes to taste.
Serving suggestions
This dish is usually served as an appetizer or as a main course. I usually serve it with toasted rustic bread.
