Why I ❤️ it Recipe Ingredients Preparation

Hot and spicy beef.
Why I ❤️ it
What I love about this dish is that it shows its Asian inspiration. It came about from the need to do something quickly with ingredients that we already had at home. But if you're looking for a quick and easy beef dish that the whole family will love, this lightly sweet and spicy orange, peppers, and beef recipe is perfect.
You don't need a marinade, a long cooking time, or to fry in a wok. You'll just need a skillet or large pan for it.

Utensils and tools

Ingredients
- 1½ pound [0.7 kg] flank steak or sirloin
- 1¼ teaspoon of garlic salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper (may need more)
- 3 tablespoon oil for frying, (peanut, or sesame oil)
- 3 bell pepper, cut into thin strips
- 1 cup of orange juice
- 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon of brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon of cracked coriander seeds, (optional)
- 1 tablespoon of spicy-hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- Salt to taste (optional)
Preparation
Before starting, please make sure you have all the ingredients and utensils ready.
Step 1: Cut the beef

Slice the beef steaks into thin strips (0.5 cm [¼ inch]), cutting across the grain.
Using a paper towel, pat dry the thin slices.
Step 2: Season the beef

Season the beef with garlic salt and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
Step 3: Brown the beef

Heat oil over high heat in the skillet or pan. Add the beef strips (careful with hot oil splatters!). Brown beef while stirring.
Once the meat is browned, lower the temperature to medium-high heat.
Step 4: Combine sauce ingredients and add

In a separate small bowl, mix the orange juice, cornstarch, tomato paste, brown sugar, coriander seeds, and hot sauce. Set aside.
Add the orange mixture to the pepper strips and cook and stir for 30 seconds once it starts to simmer, let it reduce until the sauce is a bit thick. Taste and add salt and pepper to taste if necessary. Serve immediately.
Top tips
- The beef cooks very fast, both because of the cut used, and because they are cut very thinly.
- Make sure not to overcook it so it remains tender and doesn't overdry.
Serving suggestions
This stir-fried beef goes great with white rice (I served it with this yellow rice). The rice will absorb the flavor from the sweet and spicy sauce to great results.

Variations
Instead of hot sauce, you can use 1 teaspoon of chili red pepper flakes, some minced jalapenos, or a tablespoon of chili oil. You can adjust the amounts to spice it up to your own liking.
If you have some fresh cilantro, sprinkle some leaves over it for extra color and flavor.
You can also add other vegetables if you have any; thinly sliced green onions can be stir-fried along with the bell pepper.
