Top tips
- To make the oatmeal easier to blend and a creamier smoothie, soak the oatmeal in the water for an hour or – even better – overnight.
- For this recipe we'll use instant oatmeal, steel cut oats will have a grainy texture even after soaking and blending for a long time.
- This smoothie tastes sweet enough for me, but if you find that you'd like to make it sweeter, you can add 2 very ripe chopped frozen bananas or sweeten it with agave or maple syrup. These additions will result in new flavors, nice but different.
- Keep any leftovers in the freezer and blend another time to serve. Freeze it in an ice cube tray to make it easier on your blender.
- Although oats are naturally gluten-free, check the packaging to make sure there is no cross-contamination.
Variations
If you don't want to make a vegan smoothie, add greek yogurt to make it thicker.
Add 4 tablespoons of protein powder or chia seeds for a protein-rich smoothie.
Add a few fresh mint leaves for a different and very refreshing taste.

I already make something similar with one big exception. I blend the dry oats into a powder before adding other ingredients. Very smooth, no need to strain, super quick & easy.
