100+ animal welfare standards — Global Animal Partnership certified

All fresh pork in our Meat department is Animal Welfare Certified by the nonprofit Global Animal Partnership using a tiered 5+ Step system with detailed requirements for how animals are handled, housed, fed and more. Different animals have different, specific welfare needs – for pigs, that starts with no-crate systems. Each step builds on the previous, addressing things like space for pigs to be pigs.

Each Step builds on the prior's requirements — read up on some of the details

Our Meat Standards Aren’t Standard

Cows roaming

At Whole Foods Market, our Meat department standards and strong relationships with farmers and ranchers mean we know where and how animals were raised. Plus, all beef, pork, chicken, lamb and turkey (except kosher turkey) in our Meat department is Animal Welfare Certified, so you can feel good about what you’re buying (and eating).

What Makes Our Meat Department Different

Turkeys

Farm-to-store traceability

We use a traceable audit system that tracks animals on every step of the journey — from their birth on the farm or ranch to our stores.

Chickens

No antibiotics, ever

If an animal must receive antibiotic treatment, the meat cannot be sold in our Meat department.

Cows

No added growth hormones

We don’t allow the use of added hormones in our Meat department, whether that’s through feed, injections or any other method.

Chicken feed

No animal by-products in feed

That includes no feather meal or rendered fat.

Excellent flavor but pricey.
4 Stars
Excellent flavor but pricey.
We ordered 2 pounds and received 4 very thick pork chops. I am a little confused as to why the butcher decided to cut the bones and round the pork chops. They are a little expensive (even on sale) for what you get and perhaps that is why the bones were trimmed. The flavor is excellent though. I am currently straightening my teeth so my bite is off making it difficult to chew. I noticed that these pork chops are much softer and easier to chew than what we receive at sams club. My 2 year old daughter also seems to have less issues chewing this meat. These would be really good seared in a cast iron and finished in the oven. I just didn't have this handy at the time. Definitely would order again next time it is on sale despite the price. The quality is worth it and is a nice treat.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1- INCH OF FAT ON BOTH CHOPS
Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2023
I don't know who the butcher is for this Whole Foods in Paramus New Jersey however they need to be more mindful before selling chops like this to the customer. You don't mind paying the money for a good quality item but not something that looks like this.
There was literally 1" of fat on both of these.
Basic that is money in the garbage-
This is what happens when you don't visit the butcher in person however you think that you would be able to trust the Whole Food's name -evidently not.
